Contributor's comments: In Sydney, I've only ever heard chewing gum refered to as chewie. It wasn't until I went to uni that I realised that other states have a different name for it. My Adelaide friend had all my friends laughing when she innocently asked if anyone had some "chewies". We quickly informed her that in Sydney at least you ask for some "chewie".

Contributor's comments: In Adelaide you would eat a chewie, but buy a packet of chewies. Chewie was the stuff that got stuck to your shoe, but asking for a packet of chewie at a shop, would be like asking for a packet of cigarette.
