police: When my brother first moved to Canberra in the early 80s, one of the terms used to describe the police was "the ziffs." This derived from "Arnold Ziffle," the name of the pet pig in the "Green Acres" 60s tv show.
Contributor's comments: Arnold Ziffle was a pig as I recall: hence the association with the police.
