pussy-in-the-corner

a game played in a school shelter shed. Players take up stations in corners or at pillars of the shed, while remaining players are "out". Players who are "in" beckon to each other, saying, "Pussy, pussy!", then attempt to swap places quickly, before one of the "out" players steals one of their positions. Popular on wet days at my primary school in Central Victoria in the 1950s: It was raining, so we played pussy-in-the-corner in the shelter shed.

Contributor's comments: We played this game in my housing estate when I was growing up in Belfast, N Ireland.
