Contributor's comments: It's also used in Ruth Hegarty's book about growing up in the Cherbourg dormitories, "Is That You, Ruthie". Is it an Aboriginal or TSI word?

Contributor's comments: Torres Strait Islanders say "cooma", when I was in Kowanyama in the early 70's they said "coona".

Contributor's comments: I had Aboriginal friends who used to say the baby 'done a goona' (poohed his pants). The suburb of Goodna in Ipswich is reputed to be named after Goodna Station, so called by the Aboriginals because of the cowpads.

Contributor's comments: Could this word originate from the word 'guano' (bird poo). I hope I spelled it correctly. Incidentally, I live in Perth and I've never heard the word before.

Editor's comments: Actually, the word "goona" has nothing to do with "guano". It is an Aboriginal word, present in several different languages.

Contributor's comments: I learned the word 'goona' (turd) from a part Aboriginal man when I was living in Alice Springs in 1974. I believe it came from a local Aboriginal language.
