I've lived in Sydney, Armidale and now Yass, my family came from various bits of the Central West, and I've never heard the stuff called anything but Patterson's curse, except for a bloke in the Gundaroo pub, who referred to it as simply 'curse'.
Contributor's comments: Pattersons Curse, (aka Riverina Bluebell or Salvation Jane), is one type of plant. It is not a pea. There is another pea-like plant that may be the Murrumbidgee sweet pea. A pea flower is a pultena. Pattersons Curse is NOT a pultnea.
