Contributor's comments: Shanghai was always the word for sling shot in Broken Hill in 50's 60's.

Contributor's comments: [Riverina informant] Have always known it as "shanghai," and nicknamed as "gingy". To us, a "slingshot " was a long piece of string or rubber, with a pouch usually the tongue of an old shoe - the slingshot was whirled around the head and "flicked", as in David and Goliath!!
