Taken from the name of a popular brand but used in reference to any juice drink packaged in a small cardboard carton: The boy went to the deli to buy a fruit box.

Contributor's comments: Fruit Box used all over SA, not just the south.

Contributor's comments: Growing up in Qld (Maryborough & Brisbane) we called these 'Poppas'.

Contributor's comments: We used the term Fruit Box in North West Tas, and my partner used it on the North East Coast when he was growing up.

Contributor's comments: Was very amused when I heard the term used in South Australia some years ago. Our hosts had fun with my children telling them to ask for a fruit box - son thought he'd get a box of fruit and daughter said she didn't want a box she wanted a drink. Am a teacher so always hit it off with S.A. kids starting school over here in NSW as I ask if they have a fruit box for their lunch. Notice that there is quite a few isms different in S.A. to here.

Contributor's comments: I used the word 'fruitbox' at primary school in Queanbeyan NSW in the eighties. My boyfriend is the same age but from Brisbane, he called them 'Poppers'

Contributor's comments: If you've ever been at a national gathering of kids (eg a Jamboree) you will encounter any number of minor wars over terms such as "Fruit Box," or as they say in other states, "Poppers" or "Primas" (Victoria, if I recall correctly).

Contributor's comments: fruit juice in a prepackaged box, in contrast to a bottle: "Do you want a fruit box for lunch today?"

Contributor's comments: When I was in school at Wagga Wagga we went to Wollongong and were pre-warned by our teacher that our host families wouldn't know what a fruit-box was - they called them "Poppers".

Contributor's comments: Named after the "Fruit Box" that is made by the CocaCola company in Thebarton. I suppose it is "Primas" in Vic because of the Prima company.
