Contributor's comments: When my dad was a kid (back in the 1940s) connie agates were the most prized marble. They were actually carved out of agate (ie quartz) rather than being made of glass (glassies, bottlies, Americans, etc.), or, even lower-down on the marble hierarchy, clay.
