COD gate

A `C-O-D' gate is a rural gate, that can be a rough home-made timber gate, or commercial gate that has sagged. It could also be a `wire-and-upright stringer' type. Usually in an advanced state of disrepair. The `COD' refers to the method of opening/closing the gate. You would `carry or drag' the gate, to open/close it. As a rural Telecomm Tech, it was customary to advise fellow workers of road & property access conditions. The phrase "The main gate is a COD gate" could be used to describe peculiarities of access to that particular property. I came across this term from time-to-time in the Riverina District surrounding Deniliquin NSW.
